Glock is Retiring Our Favorite Models! But Why?

Glock is Retiring Our Favorite Models! But Why?

GLOCK has announced significant changes to its commercial pistol catalog, including the discontinuation of several well-known models across multiple generations. These updates have sparked conversation in the shooting community, from longtime GLOCK fans to first-time buyers, so here’s a clear breakdown of what this change means.

Which Models Are Going Away?

Several reputable industry sources and retailer reports indicate a broad phase-out of many existing Gen 3, Gen 4, and Gen 5 models. Reports vary in detail, but the commonly shared version of the list says most current models will be removed from the commercial catalog, with a small number of slim-frame pistols remaining in production — for example, the G42, G43, G43X, and G48 (reporting has used slightly different model variants).

Important: not every retailer claim has been independently confirmed by Glock in a single public announcement; reporting has relied on a mix of company messaging, retailer listings, and industry sources. Production of current models is being reported to continue through the end of November 2025.

Why the Change?

Glock has communicated that the company is streamlining its commercial portfolio to focus on future innovation and operational simplification. Multiple industry write-ups frame this as a strategic move intended to:

  • Establish a simplified product baseline for future releases (the new V Series).

  • Concentrate resources on next-generation product development and production efficiency.

  • Align the commercial catalog with Glock’s long-term product roadmap.

Clarification from Glock Representatives

A Glock representative recently provided additional context: the transition to the new product family has been in development for an extended period and is not a last-minute response to any single piece of state legislation or legal action. The representative confirmed production will continue through the end of November, with the V Series rollout beginning afterward.

What About Support and Parts?

Glock has indicated that owners of existing and discontinued models will continue to receive support. That means magazines, spare parts, and serviceability for legacy pistols should remain available even after models transition to legacy status. In short: owning a discontinued model does not mean that pistol becomes unsupported.

What’s Coming Next?

Public reporting and company messaging point to the launch of a new V Series of pistols, with initial V models expected to appear in December 2025. Models reported in early lists include common platform names (G17 V, G19 V, G19X V, G45 V, G26 V, and others), along with distributor-exclusive variants. Glock is positioning the V Series as a baseline for future offerings and said the new generations will be optimized for optics compatibility.

What Does This Mean for Customers?

  • Production visibility: Current models are reported to remain in production until the end of November 2025.

  • Support: Glock is expected to continue parts and service for legacy models.

  • Future focus: The lineup will shift toward the new V Series and optics-capable designs.

  • Buying window: If you want a model reported as leaving the catalog, now is a good time to purchase while inventory remains.

If you’ve been considering a model that’s leaving the catalog, now may be the right time to pick one up while supplies are still available.
